First Contact with Foreign Teachers
Today, we’regoing to interview the Sarah and Sharon who came from Victoria University for teach our English in the office.
Student: Hello, Sarah and Sharon. As far as I know, Sarah came from New Zealand, and Sharon came from Australia, can you tell us about your country, such as the weather, the people relationship and the custom?
Sarah£ºOk, the New Zealand is a quiet place, is an island country. New Zealand is made up of two islands, the north and south island. So it is surrounded by water and we have many beautiful beach, mountain and lake. So, the scenery is very beautiful. About people, we have the native New Zealand people. They are Maori.
Student: Yes! Maori, I know, I have seen them in a short video.
Sarah: Aha, ok. The most people are come from Britain. And my ancestor many years ago come from England IrelandScotland. The people very well, like the people that everywhere in the world.
Student: And you, Sharon?
Sharon:Yeah,I come from Australia,my home is in Tasmania, is a big place,we have population about half a million people.
Student:Ok!Let’s do next one!Which university do you graduate,and would you tell us what educational background you have?
Sarah:Let me first,I study in university in my hometown Dunedin, and the name of university is Otago. And it is the first university in New Zealand. And it was long history .And for me I study foreign language. But I did not study Chinese, aha,I study French and German.But since I have finished my university,I have studied something that I interest,such as Chinese medicine,western natural medicine.I think I will never stop study because life is a big teacher.
Sharon£ºUmmmm£¬I study in the university when I was 35 years old.And my son was 7 months old.So he just a baby.And I went to Griffith University.
Student:Ok!Turn to next one,where did you work before you come to china?
Sarah:Yeah,I study teaching in Melbourne,because of study,I come to china short time maybe three months,and return Melbourne.Andrecently I will return my hometown to life.In the New Zealand, I have big farm in the countryside,a lot of animals,fruits and vegetable.
Student:In my hometown,I have a small farm,I have many dogs and chickens,my grandmother feed them.
Sharon:Oh.That’s great,I like farm like natural,Yeah before I come to China,and I have two businesses.So I work in my business.
Student:Can you adapt to the work in here?
Sarah:Yeah,for me,I very enjoy teaching in this college in China.It is open and friendly.I real like the college building,it’s very beautiful.
Student:What’s your first impression of AAIC?
Sarah: First impression,friendly,welcoming,the student very nice.
Student:Are there are any difference between Chinese student and foreign student?
Sarah:I always enjoy my teaching in china. Yeah,because in general,I think Chinese student want to learn and have attitude to study.But in Australia,there are many problemsto deal with,it is difficult to teaching.I have been teaching in China ten years,I see Chinese student have big change,more open,the young people in China today, they think more independent.
Sharon:I think there is a lot of difference. The one thing is behavior side, many of my student,they were talk a lot, and want to do everythingto let me look them. The Chinese studentsare very lovely but too quiet,too shy, and I will help them talk more.In other country the student talk a lot,I have to calm them down.
Student:Do you have any expectation for us?
Sharon:Actually,you should speak more;try your best speak in English and you can often talk with us.
Student:For Chinese student,do you have any special teaching methods?
Sarah:Well,for every class,we need to try to improve your listening skill.In general,I think Chinese student should be more confident,speak more .Don’t be shy!
